Uptick in IIP encouraging: PHD Chamber

Uptick in IIP numbers from 2.5% in March 2015 to 4.1% in April 2015 is inspiring and we look forward to better industrial growth in the coming times, said Mr. Alok B Shriram, President, PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry in a press statement issued here today.

Significant improvement in IIP can be attributed to good recovery in manufacturing sector as the sector registered a growth of 5.1% in April 2015 from 2.8% in March 2015. Capital goods also registered a significant growth of 11.1% in April 2015 from 8.7% in March 2015, followed by consumer goods registering a growth of 3.1% in April 2015 from -0.4% in March 2015 and Intermediate goods registering a growth of 3.3% in April 2015 from 2.9% in March 2015.

Significant growth of consumer durables from (-)4.8% in March 2015 to 1.3% in April 2015 suggests that the demand is picking up which will lead to more consumer spending in the coming times, said Mr. Shriram.

Effective and dynamic policy measures undertaken by the government are expected to deliver physical outcomes in the months ahead, he said.

Going ahead, we expect the effective implementation of the policy environment to not only improve the growth and competitiveness of the industrial sector but also to push economic growth on high road, said Mr. Shriram.
