SKILLING AND MAINSTREAMING THE HOMELESS- HARBINGER FOR SOCIOECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: PHDCCI
PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) and DUSIB, Delhi Government in association with PHD Family Welfare Foundation and Aruna Abhey Oswal Trust launched the Skill Development Center at Sarai Kale Khan Night Shelter for the homeless. The project is supported by Aruna Abhey Oswal Trust. Training will be imparted in Beauty Culture and Self-employed tailoring modules for making homeless gainfully employed or self-employed.
Night Shelter dwellers/homeless experience high rates of unemployment and incarceration and drug abuse; high incidence of individual and social costs, combined makes a case for imparting skills to them, said Mr. D K Aggarwal, Sr. Vice President, PHDCCI. He also said that one of the best things about the being employed is seeing the change, when someone overcomes thinking “I can’t get a job” and suddenly they can.
While inaugurating the center, Mrs. Anuradha Goel, Chairperson, PHDFWF said that the skilling would enable learners to acquire knowledge and develop attitudes and skills which support the adoption of healthy behavior for life.
Mr. Vishal Jindal, Chair, Skill Development Committee reiterated that the course in Self-employed Tailoring will be National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) Level IV compliant that will enhance the skills and job readiness for the trainees.
Dr. Mahesh Y. Reddy, Secretary General, PHDCCI commented that the Chamber would act as a catalyst for mainstreaming the marginalized with special emphasis on women and child empowerment.
Among others who were present in the launch included Dr. Jatinder Singh, Director; Ms Sangita Dutta Das, Sr. Program Manager and Board Members of PHDFWF.
