No.PR-213 August 20, 2020 New Delhi MSME Conclave on Scaling up Industry to the Next Level organized by PHDCCI PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) organized MSME Conclave with a theme scaling up MSME to the Next Level here today. Welcoming the Speakers and participants, Mr. Mohit Jain, Chair, Haryana State Chapter, PHDCCI stated that MSMEs are the backbone of industrial economy and play a key role in generating employment in the country. To realize their full potential, MSMEs need to make full use of different funding facilities and marketing opportunities available in the country and avail benefits of various schemes announced by Government of India under the of Atma-nirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan. Sharing the Industry perspective – Mr. Anil Khaitan, Former President and Mentor, PHD-MSME Mentoring & Guidance Centre said that scaling up of businesses is important to increase competitiveness, increase market share and to maintain liquidity. Scaling up of business can be done by modernising with adoption of latest or alternative technology. He added that proper financial planning is also vital for scaling up of any industry. Therefore, proper estimates of requirement of long term capital and working capital should be worked out and the sources of funding should be identified in advance. He cautioned against diversion of funds which can lead to failure of any enterprise. Addressing the participants, Mr. Saurabh Sanyal, Secretary General, PHD Chamber stated that MSME sector is the important part of economy but is vulnerable to any radical change in policies or natural calamities like covid-19. Therefore, they need support from Government and other sectors to survive. He explained the support offered to MSMEs by PHDCCI through its PHD-MSME Mentoring & Guidance Centre. He informed that PHDCCI had raised issues concerning MSMEs with the Central Government that have been suitably addressed. Delivering the Key Note Address, Dr. H P Kumar, Former CMD, NSIC and Advisor, PHD Chamber said that scaling up of business not only means adding new technology or machinery but it also means full utilization of the available capacity. He said that majority of MSMEs are using only 60% of their capacity. He added that market plays an important role in success of any business. He informed that the Government has a huge procurement budget. Besides this great demand also exists in both domestic and export market. But due to lack of awareness, most of the MSMEs are not able to tap these markets. Mr Kumar said that GeM portal is a good marketing platform but it has a limited scope. He added that over 3000 items are being imported by India and MSMEs have great scope for producing substitutes of these imported items. He suggested that the Government needs to run awareness campaigns through Chambers of Commerce to enlighten MSMEs about these items. Explaining the role of PHD-MSME Mentoring & Guidance Centre, Mr. Kumar stated that existing and new enterprises are given support in all spheres including identification of new projects, capacity building, connecting to various financial platforms, incubation centres etc. Explaining the procedure and benefits of listing on NSE, Mr. Rakesh Khurana, Regional Manager, NSE stated that listing increases the visibility and credibility of the companies. He mentioned that for scaling up, businesses need finance and NSE is a good platform for raising funds at a very low cost. He said that cost of finance plays an important role in viability of any business. Mr. Naveen Joshi Regional Manager, GeM made a presentation to explain the process of registration on the GeM Portal. He stated that GeM portal was launched in 2016 for transparency and inclusiveness in public procurement. He said that this is a cashless, contactless and paperless platform. An industry can sell its products pan India on this portal and can also choose delivery options to sell in a particular region.
