PHD Chamber urges government to cover lower age groups for its vaccination drive
Even as the Indian government enters the third phase of COVID vaccination for citizens over the age group of 45, the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), the apex industry body has urged the government to inoculate the maximum number of people and also ensure that they open up the vaccination drive to include lower age groups as well.
The chamber believes that as the country gets ready to face of the second wave of the Coronavirus attack with the increasing number of cases, it is important that even people from the lower age group namely those falling between the 18- 45 age bracket should be included in the vaccination drive, said Mr. Sanjay Aggarwal, President, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in a press statement issued here today.
This is an age group that is very active and mobile for education or job-related purposes, so it is very necessary that they be vaccinated on a priority basis. Also, given the fact that there is no shortage of vaccines in the country, to carry on the drive, said Mr. Aggarwal.
While in the first phase, the government rolled out the inoculation drive to healthcare workers and front line workers, the second phase witnessed the vaccination for people over the age of 60 and for people over the age of 45 with co-morbid conditions. The chamber is of the opinion that the third phase will be very important given the maximum number of the active population falling in the age bracket, he said.
PHDCCI has suggested that the help of the private sector can also be taken if the need arises. Private sector along with individual housing, societies can help organize the vaccination drive to inoculate their members.
The Chamber appreciates the government’s efforts to increase the vaccination count to 30 lakh vaccinations daily. PHDCCI lauds the central government’s move to provide the COVID vaccine to over 80 countries while keeping in mind the domestic requirements, said Mr. Sanjay Aggarwal.
