Looking at the unprecedented scenario of COVID-19, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in partnership with the India Office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) organized an interactive Video Conference session with Shri V. Muraleedharan, Hon’ble Minister of State for External Affairs, Government of India on the “Impact of COVID-19 on the International Trade & Measures taken by the Govt. of India for the Indian Industry” in partnership with the India Office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) on 23rd April 2020. The session witnessed a participation of more than 100 industry players and senior’ members of PHD Chamber all over the country.

Shri V Muraleedharan, Hon’ble Minister of State for External Affairs, Government of India thanked PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry for being active during this period and for organizing such interactive sessions.

Sh. V Muraleedharan shared that the government is making tremendous efforts to help the businesses and livelihoods. He advised everyone to understand the spirit of the lockdown, as many things are going to change in the coming future, including ways of doing business and contributing to the growth of the economy.

Post COVID-19, there will be a lot of opportunities for growth for the MSME sector. Ministry of External Affairs has taken measures to promote the 3Ts which are Trade, Tourism, and Technology which will boost the economy and development of the country said Sh. V Muraleedharan. Shri V Muraleedharan stressed on the fact that the Government of India is doing its best by taking the right steps way before as compared to other countries, as the doubling rate of the cases of people infected with the virus in India was 8 days, from 10,000 to 20,000 while across the globe the first one lakh cases came in 90 days while another lakh came in after 8 days.

The Minister urged PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry to submit an effective representation of the challenges faced by the industry and assured that he will take it up with not only his but all the respective ministries and resolved the issues to the best of possibilities.

Dr. D K Aggarwal, President, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, welcomed Sh. V Muraleedharan, Hon’ble Minister of State for External Affairs, Government of India. He also thanked the Hon’ble Minister for his comforting words regards to the upliftment of the economy, also regarding the various packages that the government is working on to help the MSME sector during this crucial time.

Mr. Sanjay Agarwal, Sr. Vice President of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry appreciated the government efforts in curtailing the spread of the virus.

Mr. Peter Rimmele, Resident Representative, KAS India Office, gave an insight into what the German government is doing to help the industry and it’s citizens to get back to work, and that the government has contributed 1 billion Euros to finance the losses to the business in the country. Mr. Saurabh Sanyal, Secretary General, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry apprised Hon’ble Minister that PHD Chamber is an old chamber and has been a founder and promoter chamber to other Chambers. He also said that we are presently not allowed to co-host the visiting state heads with the other 3 chambers for the benefits of our members specifically MSMEs, we need the intervention of Hon’ble Minister for getting this processed.

Mr. Saurabh Sanyal, Secretary General, PHDCCI, and Mr. Naveen Seth, Principal Director, PHD Chamber updated the Honb’le Minister about the activities of the Chamber and assured that the Chamber is standing with the Government at this time, and it’s members have also supported by contributing huge amounts to the PM CARES COVID-19 relief fund.

The session was attended by other senior PHD members and KAS representatives, along with industry professionals from various sectors.
