No. PR – 156 December 3, 2021 New Delhi Deputy CM’s appeal, industrialists should promote investment in Punjab 15th PITEX started in Amritsar, organized by PHD Chamber AMRITSAR: Punjab Deputy Chief Minister O.P Soni appealed industrialists to expand and establish new industries in Punjab. He stated that the State Government is fully committed to provide all kinds of facilities to the industry. Soni was addressing industrialists and businessmen after inaugurating the 15th five-day Punjab International Trade Expo PITEX being organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and industry in collaboration with Punjab Government on Thursday. He said that during the last four and a half years in Punjab, rigorous efforts have been made to provide a better environment for the industry by making strategic policies favorable to them. He apprised that such favourable policies have fetched an investment of one lakh crore to the state, so far. Due to the fact, not only the industrial infrastructure has been strengthened but employment opportunities have also increased. Further, congratulating the team of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry for organising PITEX on the theme of tourism, the Deputy Chief Minister said that Punjab has immense potential for tourism. There are many places of international importance in Punjab, Amritsar is a Holy City and is developed as tourist destination for the people visiting Punjab. Tejveer Singh, Principal Secretary Industries and Commerce Punjab mentioned that the state is now considered as one of the leading industrial state. 3500 new industries have been established recently and 52% of the industry which signed MOU with Punjab Government are operational and rest of the projects are in development stage. He also mentioned that because of PITEX we got huge growth in tourism as it is a big opportunity to show our cultural identity. Welcoming the dignitaries on the occasion, Saurabh Sanyal, Secretary General, PHD Chamber of Commerce and industry said that PHDCCI is the voice of industry with a strong base of around 1,50,000 direct and indirect members comprising of large, medium and small industries. Last year, India’s tourism sector contributed 39 million jobs, which was 8.0 percent of the total employment in the country. There is a huge potential in the tourism sector. The tourism sector is expected to create 53 million jobs by 2029. Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Khaira said that making such an event successful during the Corona period is a big challenge for the administration. Speaking on the occasion, R.S Sachdeva, Chair Punjab State chapter, PHDCCI, Karan Gilhotra, Sanjiv Singh and Ajay Mahajan, Co-Chairs, Punjab State Chapter presented a report on the work being done by the Chamber in Punjab.
