PHDCCI in collaboration with JIT hosts Launch Ceremony of Recycling Boxes for Disposal of Used Ink Bottles by JIT

 

PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in association with the JIT, organized the “Launch Ceremony of Recycling Boxes for Disposal of Used Ink Bottles by JIT under JICA-funded SDGs Business Validation Survey for Reusing Printer Ink Bottles and Small Appliances to Reduce Plastics and Develop Circular Economy in India.”

 

H.E. Mr. Hiroshi Suzuki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to India discussed that the endeavor of instalment of recycling boxes for disposal of used Ink bottles by JIT is crucial for introducing a circular economy in India and tackling climate change. He noted that under PM Modi’s leadership, initiatives like Mission LIFE are reducing the carbon footprint. One of the objectives of this mission is to reduce single-use plastic and recycle used plastic, and this project aligns significantly with PM Modi’s mission.

He added that Japan has also passed a law promoting plastic recycling, aiming to double the amount of recycling by 2030. Both India and Japan are doing their best in this effort. He further expressed his pleasure at JIT partnering with DMRC, stating that Delhi Metro’s initiatives have not only led to punctuality and safety but also to women empowerment. This time, through this initiative, DMRC will be at the cutting edge of the circular economy and bring about a second metro revolution.

 

Mr. Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director, DMRC, expressed gratitude to Japan for bringing this sustainable initiative to India with DMRC as its first partner. He highlighted that Delhi Metro is taking important steps toward sustainability including the installation of sustainable boxes at Hauz Khas and 14 other DMRC stations. He emphasized the importance of raising awareness among passengers and noted that DMRC has always been at the forefront of such initiatives, planting 10 trees for every one cut. He also mentioned that their corporate headquarters, the Metro Bhawan is certified as a carbon neutral building.

 

Dr. Ranjeet Mehta, Executive Director, PHDCCI emphasized that sustainability is central to economic development and said that climate change poses a serious threat and unique initiatives like this will help mitigate its effects. He highlighted that solid waste is a major problem, and India’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint by 45% by 2030 and achieving net zero by 2070 will be supported by such green transition initiatives, in which Japan can play a significant role. He also assured that PHDCCI would be installing these boxes on PHD Offices across the country and also would encourage our Industry Members to do the same in their respective offices.

 

Mr. Tomohiro Arima, Senior Representative, JICA India Office expressed happiness that recycling boxes have been installed across 15 stations, embodying a shared commitment to sustainability. He noted that since 1990 Japan and India have collaborated on the Delhi Metro project to handle serious traffic issues, and it stands as a shining example of collaboration between the two countries. He expressed confidence that JIT will implement its technology to reduce the carbon footprint, acknowledging that while it may seem like a small step, it is crucial for reducing the carbon footprint and part of sustainable business practices and a testament to innovation. He emphasized that their unwavering commitment has led to this collaboration, creating a lasting impact on sustainability.

 

Mr. Masato Ishizaka, Chairman of JIT Inc expressed his gratitude to DMRC and PHDCCI for supporting this noble initiative by JIT of recycling boxes for disposal of used Ink bottles.

He further informed, JIT operates a recycling business in Japan using collection boxes for printer ink cartridges and  is developing its business with the aim of contributing to solving the waste problem in India with the support of JICA from April 2024. Following the formal agreement with Delhi Metro to install the collection boxes in Delhi Metro stations in June 2024, this ceremony is being held with the aim of promoting the use of the collection boxes in India and building a recycling-oriented circular economy.

 

Further dignitaries like H.E. Mr. Sibi George, Ambassador of India to Japan; Ms. Noriko horiuchi, A Member for Digital Transformation of Japan; H.E. Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Digital Transformation of Japan also applauded and congratulated JIT on the launch of their boxes and their installation in DMRC stations.
