Government’s National Logistics e-Marketplace will Revolutionize India’s Logistics Sector

 

The government is developing a National Logistics e-Marketplace which marks a significant leap in India’s logistics sector, integrating infrastructure, services, and government regulations into a unified B2B platform, said, Dr. Surendra Ahirwar, Joint Secretary, Logistics, DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt of India at PHDCCI’s  2nd edition of National Logistics Summit 2024 organised on 9th August 2024 with the theme of “Local to Global: Revolutionizing Indian Industry through Logistics Excellence.”

 

He also shared that the initiatives, driven by recent policy advancements like the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan and the National Logistics Policy, aims to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and foster competitive pricing in logistics services. Recognized globally, this digital transformation will reflects India’s growing role as a key player in global supply chains, and it will align with the country’s broader economic goals of becoming a major global hub and achieving significant GDP growth, concluded Dr. Ahirwar.

Sh. N. Sivasailam, Former Special Secretary- Logistics, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India shared that the logistics sector is undergoing significant transformation  and adoption of multimodal billing and multimodal insurance is critical for the success of National Logistics E-marketplace along with the integration of blockchain technology for secure and efficient logistics operations. The key initiatives like the India-Middle East Corridor, Direct Port Delivery (DPD), the operational deep sea port at Vizhimjam, and the upcoming Vadhavan Port and Nicobar Project along with the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC), are set to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.

 

Mr. Pawan Jain, Chair, Logistics Committee, PHDCCI, in his Industry perspective highlighted that India’s logistics industry is at a pivotal moment. Historically focused on optimizing local and regional supply chains, Indian companies now need to align with global standards to remain competitive internationally. This shift demands the adoption of advanced technologies, the cultivation of cross-border collaborations, and the development of sustainable practices.

 

Dr. Ranjeet Mehta, CEO & Secretary General, PHDCCI, in his welcome address emphasized that the summit’s theme encapsulates a vision that is both ambitious and essential. Navigating the complexities of global markets requires addressing the challenges and opportunities at the intersection of local and global logistics. This evolving landscape presents a unique chance to enhance operational efficiency and drive economic growth and global competitiveness.

 

The objective of the summit was to bring together industry experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss, analyze, and address key challenges and opportunities in transforming Indian logistics to support global competitiveness and excellence.
