PHDCCI Hosts Seminar on Building a Resilient Odisha through Safety Preparedness
PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), an industry body, hosted a seminar titled “Seminar on Strengthening Industrial Safety- Integrating Fire Safety with Risk Management” at Hotel Vivanta, Bhubaneswar. The event aimed to explore ways to strengthen Odisha’s safety systems and ensure long-term growth and well-being for its citizens.
Dr. Sudhanshu Sarangi, IPS, Director General of Fire & Emergency Services, Odisha, served as the Chief Guest and stressed the importance of safety audits, better awareness, and a cultural shift to prioritize safety. He urged regular awareness programs to ensure preparedness against natural and man-made hazards.
Dr. Jatinder Singh, Deputy Secretary General, PHDCCI, highlighted the need for a holistic safety approach. Former Chief Fire Officer, Odisha, Shri Maheswar Swain, shared insights from his experience in industries like steel, power, and refineries. He highlighted that regular training, safety checks, and modern safety rules are necessary to reduce risks.
Representing the private sector, Shri Ashish Sarangi from Karam Group explained how world-class safety products can be both accessible and affordable, promoting widespread adoption across businesses.
The distinguished speakers Dr. Malaya Kumar Pradhan, Deputy Director Safety, Director of Factories & Boilers, Govt. of Odisha and Er. P C Mohapatra, Director, Essar Minmet Ltd, Member of UCCIL emphasized on regular training, safety checks, and adherence to modern safety regulations to mitigate risks. Key areas of discussion included, Natural Disaster Preparedness, Industrial Safety in core sectors viz. steel, power and refineries, Urban Safety and collaboration between government, industry, and communities.
The seminar closed with a Vote of Thanks by Shri Rupesh K Pandey, Sr. Secretary, PHDCCI, who reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to support Odisha’s development and safety goals. By fostering conversations and advocating proactive steps, PHDCCI aims to help build a resilient Odisha ready to overcome future challenges.
