High vegetables, fuel & power prices stoke WPI inflation: PHDCCI

Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation was stoked by high prices of primary articles, particularly vegetables, fruits, non-food articles and crude petroleum & natural gas, from 1.8% in November to 2.3% in December 2024, said Mr. Hemant Jain, President, PHDCCI, in a press statement issued here today.

The rise in prices of manufactured products from 2% in November to 2.1% in December 2024 and fuel and power from (-) 5.8% in November to (-)3.7% in December 2024 have led to an increase in WPI, he said.

The rise in prices of vegetables and fruits is majorly due to fog in many areas in the northern region, which is expected to improve in the coming weeks and help supply chains to become intact, he added.
