PHD CHAMBER GIVES AWAY ART & CULTURE SAMMAN ON FRIDAY AT PHD HOUSE

 

PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Friday conferred Art & Culture Samman in the areas of dance, music, painting & sculptures, drama-theatre and crafts & handicrafts upon a few legendaries in their respective fields at a function “Unity in Diversity” held here under its aegis.

 

The function was presided over by the President of the PHD Chamber, Mr. Anil Khaitan in which theme presentation was made by, Chairman, Arts &  Culture Committee PHD Chamber, Mr. Sandeep Marwah with Special Address by Guest of Honour Mr. Michael Aaron Nii Nortey Oquaye, High Commissioner, Ghana High Commission to India and Mr. Jagdishwar Goburdhun,, High Commissioner of Mauritius, Mauritius High Commission, New Delhi.

 

The Special Performance during the occasion was delivered by Padmashri Smt. Geeta Chandran, who is a world-renowned Bharatanatyam dancer, teacher & choreographer, a celebrated artist and a star-performer.

 

The Vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. D K Aggarwal, Vice President, PHD Chamber with closing remarks from Mr. Yogesh Srivastav, Principal Director, PHD Chamber.

 

 

 

The Art & Culture Samman was given away to different personalities of repute in the field of dance, it went to   Padma Shri BharatiShivaji- an Indian Mohiniyattomclassical dancer,A  choreographer and an author; Kuchipudi maestros Padma Shri Guru Jayarama Rao and Vanashree Rao who have dedicated their lives to the study , practice and propagation of Kuchipudi dance; Padmashree Ranjana Gauhar, a world-renowned Odissi dancer and a multidimensional personality whose interests also include theatre, painting and choreography; Pandit Rajendra Gangani – renowned Kathak dancer known for his innovative style and technical wizardry; Guru Shashadhar Acharya, Eminent Exponent/Choreographer of Chhau Dance of Seraikella; Aditi Mangaldas- Kathak dancer and choreographer, who works with the traditional repertoire of Kathak.- Her disiciple Danver Gauri Diwakar will take the award on her behalf; Santosh Nairji - Artistic Director – Sadhya Dance Company; Reela Hota   eminent Odissi performer, educator and producer.

 

In the area of music, the Art & Culture Samman was given away to people such as Padma Shri  -Pandit Madhup Mudgal  Indian Hindustani classical music vocalist known for his khayal and bhajan renditions & Principal of the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya; Padma Shri Pandit Bhajan Soporiji – an Indian instrumentalist. He is a player of the santoor, an ancient stringed musical instrument; Pandit Shubhendra Raoji –a composer and sitar player who is ranked amongst the top soloists of India; Padma Shri Ustad Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar-Indian classical masestro of the dhrupad genre; "Dr. Radhika Chopra-renowned Urdu/Hindi Ghazal Singer in the traditional puritan raga based gayaki; Dr.Meeta Pandit from the Gwalior Gharana of Hindustani Classical Music (Styles of Khayal and Tappa); Sunanda Sharma – renowned vocalist of Benaras Gharana -a leading vocalist amongst the young generation.

 

In the category of painting & sculptures, it was conferred upon to Padma Bhushan Mr. Jatin Das – A painter and sculptor-contemporary artist whereas in the field of drama-theatre and crafts & handicrafts, the Samman was done to Ms. Lushin Dubey- Director, Actor, Scriptwriter, Teacher and         Jaya Jaitly, Crafts revivalist, writer, activist, former politician and Indian handicrafts curator respectively.

 

Other Sammanees comprised Shakeel Ahmed Sahibji -a new  rising star in the ancient tradition of Ghazal Gaayaki; Vani Rajmohan – for her endeavours in the field of Bharathanatyam dance and Jyoti Shrivastava-for her endeavours in the field of Odissi dance.
